It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And there isn’t a better way to celebrate than at our own, beloved Balboa Park. On December 5th and 6th, we get to enjoy the largest free seasonal festival of the year. Here’s what you can expect!
What is December Nights?
This wonderful Christmassy event takes over Balboa Park for the 48th year. Back in the day, it was actually called Christmas on the Prado! It’s big, it’s free, it’s fun – which means it’s busy. Hundreds of thousands are expected to attend.
Packed with lights, music, food, and family-friendly fun, you cannot miss it. Many of the park’s museums even open their doors for free for a few hours.
What’s there to do?

What isn’t there to do?! Balboa Park will basically be transformed into a complete winter wonderland. Expect snow, carols, a Ferris Wheel, hot cocoa, and other magical elements. There’ll be 5 entertainment stages, over 200 food and retail vendors, and 70 performances. Oh – and don’t forget to look for ‘Murphy the reindeer’ next to the Palms Stage.
On Friday, the tree at Spreckles Organ Pavilion lights up at 6PM. Moreover, every hour, the Museum of Art will be illuminated with a wonderful light show and snowfall.
Hungry? Check out the Food Truck Alley at Village Place, where you’ll find something delicious for everyone. Or, stop by the International Cottages, for a little instant travelling adventure.
See you there!
