Balboa Park’s annual holiday festival will look a little different this year, but we can still get a Taste of December Nights!
Every year for more than 40 years, Balboa Park transforms into a winter wonderland for San Diegans to come together to ring in the holiday season. The already beautiful park glitters with holiday lights and is adorned with the most magical of decorations. Holiday trees, reindeer, snowflakes, nutcrackers, you name it!
Thanks to everyone who celebrated #DecemberNights2018 in its 41st year of cheer! Thank you to the hard-working staff, partners and vendors who made it possible. See you next year! @BalboaPark pic.twitter.com/qmRuTwt7uo

The park becomes a massive festival that treats local residents and visitors to over 150 music, dance, and theatrical performances that celebrate a multitude of cultural traditions. Not to mention the 100+ food and retail vendors that attend the festival, giving visitors a taste of every corner of the world while they explore the decked out Balboa Park.
This year, because of the pandemic, things will look a little different. But that doesn’t mean we still can’t have our holiday fun! Like many events this year, December Nights has simply been remodeled. Taste of December Nights is the new 2020 version of the beloved festival. It will be a 3-day drive-thru event, from Friday, December 4 through Sunday, December 6.
The drive-thru event will take place in the Inspiration Point parking lot near Balboa Park. While the route won’t go through the park itself, visitors will still get to taste their way through San Diego, and from the comfort (and safety) of their own vehicles! More than 20 food trucks and food vendors are set to offer menus with visitors’ most favorite food selections.
In order to ensure everyone’s safety and adhere to all county Covid regulations, the event will be drive-thru only. Visitors must wear masks and remain in their vehicles at all times. Bikes, scooters or walk-ups will not be allowed. Further details about menu offerings are set to be determined in the coming weeks by festival organizers, but the event is sure to be a hit. Get ready to bring those taste buds some holiday cheer, San Diego!
