I think we all need a bit of good news every once in a while, and this new queer-friendly, woman-owned community space wants to provide that for San Diegans in 2024.
This free-spirited bar Good News will offer a menu of non-alcoholic beer, alcohol-removed wine, spirit alternatives for cocktails, functional drinks with adaptogens and nootropics, CBD/THC products, kombucha, and tea.
The story of how two bartenders committed to the non-alcohol life is an interesting one, and was recounted in a blog, One Club Sober.
Kaylee Clark and Crystal Clark, both bartenders at the time and recovering from a third round with Covid, decided to help keep each other accountable in attempting the NA lifestyle. “As we were both bartenders at the time, this wasn’t an easy journey. We felt isolated, ostracized, and defeated as we began this new lifestyle,” they said.
Now, they’re hoping to provide a secure and inclusive environment for those in recovery, sober-curious, or anyone on the spectrum who has a relationship with alcohol.
The community space will have live music, trivia, dance nights with rotating DJs, and while the menu is still being figured out, they will be using local brands they know and love to craft their drinks, like Curious Elixirs (@curiouselixirs), Best Day Brewing Co (@bestdaybrewing), Three Spirit (@threespiritdrinks) to name just a few.
