Whether it’s the lush gardens of Balboa Park or the scenic La Jolla Coast Walk Trail, San Diego is packed with romantic spots where people usually pop the question. However, in a now-viral TikTok video sweeping across social media, a man in San Diego had a slightly different plan for his unsuspecting girlfriend.
What she thought was another evening out turned into a scene out of a fairytale: thousands of realistic candles lined the stage, swaying gently and casting a beautiful glow, as a live string quartet serenaded them with the couple’s song.
But first, let’s rewind to the start, before the candles and the music. The elegantly dressed couple was just about to enter the theater to enjoy a classical tribute when a paid actor/photographer posing as the event’s photographer stepped in and casually asked if he could snap a few “photos” of them near the stage.
She was already met with a sea of flickering candles, but a string quartet joined them shortly after to seal the picture-perfect moment. The classical musicians started to play “Avatar’s Love” from The Last Airbender, their relationship anthem.
With the familiar tunes resounding in the popular San Diego venue, the man whispered to his girlfriend that he was about to ask for her hand in marriage and then he knelt for the moment of truth. As she realized what was really happening, tears of joy flooded her face and through tears and laughter, she said yes.
The video has since generated, at the time of writing, 24.9 million views, 5.3 million likes and 56,000 comments praising the thoughtful detail. “I cried, this was beautiful…”, said a moved viewer. But it made others turn green too: “I’m mad at my husband today thanks”.
We can see why — the gorgeous, intimate ambiance and the couple’s special song played live commemorating their journey together added a magical touch to such a life-changing question. It most definitely is something we’ll be replaying over and over again.
