A Big-Mac, but make it meatless…and just as delicious! Mr. Charlie’s, the fast food chain known as “vegan McDonald’s”, is opening 2 new locations in San Diego.
The famous chain – actually called Mr. Charlie’s Told Me So – became super famous in cities such as Los Angeles and San Francisco. Their Mr. Royale with Cheese and Mr. Chuck won over even the hearts of avid meat-lovers. Oh – and their frowny fries are preeetttyyy similar to you-know-whose.

The chain will open 2 new locations in Pacific Beach and Hillcrest. According to What Now San Diego, the Pacific Beach one is expected to launch in 3 weeks, in the former home of Brazilian Bowls. This one is ran by an ex-military veteran, who has announced that the team will sometimes be working on military-related events for this site.
The Hillcrest location is planned for late January or early February, and it will become the company’s largest location to date. It will also host comedy nights, live music, and all sorts of entertaining events.
Mr. Charlie’s story

President Adam Wilks recalls the day when he became interested in the chain. Apparently, he was with Mike Tyson, and actually returned twice in one day after trying the food at Mr. Charlie’s. While currently only in 3 cities worldwide – with the San Diego locations to follow up – the brand is pretty much set to take over the US soon. As concern for the environment and interest in plant-based solutions increases, it’s easy to see why.
Besides, Mr. Charlie’s is known for supporting the local community by hiring people struggling with homelessness and addiction. Why? Because co-founder McKinnon was once homeless and battling addiction himself. He received help from the Dream Center in Los Angeles, and was able to turn his life around.
Oh, and just in case you were wondering…yes, the name comes from the Grateful Dead song Cosmic Charlie.
