We won’t argue with “New York never sleeps,” but when it comes to constantly evolving, growing, and redefining the culinary scene… San Diego is certainly in the conversation. Almost every week, a new spot – whether a bar, restaurant, ice-cream shop, or another concept – opens its doors in America’s Finest City. 2026 is no exception, bringing so many awaited openings, some from familiar names, and others completely new. Without further ado, here are our top 5 most anticipated new restaurants in San Diego.
1. Fish Shop, Oceanside

Already a local-favorite, those who know it and live in Oceanside can’t wait to see Fish Shop in their neighborhood. It already had its soft launch, and we’re expecting to see their doors open literally any day now. This location – the group’s 4th in the county – takes over the former Rye’s and Grind space with a relaxed, open-air atmosphere.
You can expect the same casual, yet super delicious, seafood concept. The menu mirrors its sister spots, with local fish (from yellowtail to sea bass), a marinade (like cajun butter or lemon butter), and a style (taco, salad, sandwich, or plate). It also features a dedicated oyster bar and a selection of delicious local craft beers.
2. Harland Brewing Company, 4S Ranch

Also this January, Harland Brewing Company opens its first full-service restaurant at the Del Sur Town Center in 4S Ranch. Unlike its tasting rooms, this venue moves beyond food trucks and snacks to offer a complete, globally inspired dinner menu. You can enjoy dishes like smash burgers, kung pao Brussels sprouts, fish tacos, garlic noodles, fried-chicken sandwiches, and much more. The space is designed with a mid-century modern aesthetic, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows.
One of the co-founders – Jess Hansson, who’s also a neighborhood local – says: “Our vision for Harland 4S Ranch is a welcoming hub where neighbors come together for date nights, birthdays, and post-game celebrations after baseball, soccer and football.”
3. Ikaria, La Jolla
Ikaria is one of the year’s most ambitious projects, coming from the seasoned team behind Puesto (which is also expanding – but more on that below) and Marisi. This Eastern Mediterranean concept is designed to be more than just a restaurant, but “a culinary and cultural hub.” The venue, ill feature a 2-story layout, where you can enjoy wood-fired dishes and mezze. Unique to this location, Ikaria plans to offer cooking classes, wine tastings, and fermentation workshops!
Ikaria is set to open in summer 2026, and it’s located at One Alexandria Square.
4. Little Italy Food Hall

We’ve all missed this one, didn’t we? The relaunch is set for May 2026, and the transformation sees the space as a more cohesive destination. The idea if for it to feel like a singular bustling European piazza, rather than just another food court. 3 of the 5 restaurant booths inside the hall will be Tiger Hospitality’s (who is responsible for re-imaging this place) Cosmos Burger, Lobster Lab and La Vida. We expect to see indoor and outdoor seating, music performances, live cooking demos and more fun activities.
5. Puesto Taco Bar, Sorrento Valley

Last but not least, there’s another exciting opening we’re expecting to see at the beginning of 2026. Puesto Taco Bar is a new concept from the Puesto team, located in Sorrento Valley. Distinct from the group’s sit-down restaurants, this spot is tailored to the area’s busy professional crowd. As usual, you can expect their signature Mexico City-style tacos wrapped in handmade blue corn tortillas and vibrant design.
It serves as a high-energy spot for lunch and happy hour, pouring Puesto’s own brewed Mexican lagers and those beloved margaritas.
