One of San Diego’s most enduring fall traditions is back! Ocean Beach Oktoberfest takes over the corner of Newport and the beach on October 9 – 10, drawing over 10,000 attendees. It’s a mix of craft beer, live music, and seaside festivities – all with a Y2K (year 2000) twist.
Expect neon, nostalgia, and throwback music alongside the stein holds and brat-eating contests that regulars know well.
What’s happening each day at Ocean Beach Oktoberfest
- Friday, October 9 opens with “Flashback Friday Locals Night,” headlined by a Local Legends Stein Hold, cash grab giveaways, and 2-for-1 beers until 5 PM. A low-key way to ease into the weekend before things escalate!
- Saturday, October 10 runs fuller: the OB+RL Beach Party goes noon to 5 PM, complete with the Mr. & Ms. Oktoberfest Bikini Competition. Then, the Y2K After Dark Neon Party takes over the Electronica Stage from 8 to 10 PM. Classic festival games (pretzel toss, brat-eating contest, etc.) fill out the day alongside interactive Y2K-themed surprises.
Tickets and community impact
The event is 21+. General admission is $20 at the gate. VIP tickets are $75 and include entry, a custom one-liter “OB2K Oktoberfest” mug pre-filled with two beers, Main Stage VIP area access, dedicated restrooms, and priority re-entry.
Beyond the party, OB Oktoberfest has a real community footprint: proceeds benefit the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association and The Peninsula Alliance. The festival raises over $50,000 annually for local partners and has contributed $850,000 in total to date.
