Raised By Wolves is a swanky speakeasy in La Jolla.
Unlike many of its predecessors of the 1920s, Raised By Wolves isn’t exactly hidden but rather hidden in plain sight. When you enter the bar, you won’t find a bar but instead a bougie liquor storefront. To get “in,” you’ll have to sit down in one of the two burgundy velvet chairs in front of the fireplace, and well, this is where things get theatrical! All of a sudden, you’ll feel a shift in the room as the fireplace, and you begin to rotate, and you’ll find yourself on the other side of Raised By Wolves. Aka, where the party is at!
The decor is outstanding; your eyes will dance through the elaborate details that you almost don’t know where to look. The bar gives a vibe that falls somewhere between a high-end Prohibition-era speakeasy and a smoking room where one might wear a smoking jacket with a cigar and scotch in hand. The fantastic decor is found everywhere in Raised By Wolves; the bathroom ceiling even has stars! The tables and chairs are also beautiful and comfortable, but to get the whole speakeasy experience, we recommend you sit at the bar and see the bartenders working their magic. If you love speakeasies, craft cocktails, history, and unique experiences, Raised by Wolves is the perfect spot for you!
The amazing atmosphere and aesthetics of this La Jolla gem are hard to match, and their delicious drinks will keep you coming back. They have an extensive drinks menu that would impress even the most discerning patron. You’ll find nearly any liquor or liqueur you can think of and one of the widest selections of bitters and vermouths out there! With these, the bartenders can concoct true wonders and be endlessly creative with your drink orders! You can customize your drink, like getting a whiskey sour but with scotch instead, perhaps Laphroaig Lore.
We recommend you book a reservation well in advance just to make sure you don’t miss out on this unique bar experience. We particularly recommend their Dry Martini, Tongue Twister, Night Ride & Private Barrel Old Fashioned. Though if you are partial to sweeter drinks, we also suggest you try the Banana Cream Flip, In Sheep’s Clothing, and Raspberry Blush Berliner. The Banana Cream Flip really tastes like a banana cream pie!
Raised By Wolves does offer a selection of beer and wines; however, it is foremost a cocktail bar, so we encourage you to try one. If you’re not too sure what to get or are a little daunted by the menu, do not hesitate to ask one of the friendly and knowledgeable bartenders for help. We’re sure they’ll point you in the right direction. You could even ask the bartender to make you something unique! They are highly skilled in their craft, and it adds to the fun to try something off-menu. They also have cocktails made with spirits from their reserve list if you really want to treat yourself. Most drinks on the menu run around $15, but those made from spirits from their reserve list go for $30 to $90!
This showstopping bar is definitely a great spot to take some pictures for your socials. However, there is no dress code, so the ambiance is not stuffy while still making for a smart and memorable night! The shopkeeper even handwrites down recipes in a fountain pen! This spot is ideal for anyone looking for a fun and adventurous night out. Still, it will be exceptionally memorable for those of us who love cocktails! If you want to impress your friends on your next get-together, then take them to Raised By Wolves, and that should do the trick!
