1. Aero Club, Mission Hills
The Aero Club Whiskey Bar is amongst the best watering holes around. Since its opening, this laidback spot has served residents of the Mission Hills area, near the airport. Marianne Profit, a local female pilot, opened the Aero Club in 1947. Now, the it’s a must-see for anyone who appreciates an authentic bar, as much of the original decor is still alive here. They have over 1200 whiskeys, and unique whiskey-based cocktails.

2. High Dive Bar and Grill, Bay Park

Looking for a slightly upscale dive? High Dive Bar is the place to get a beer from one of their 20 taps, along with a gigantic burger. Or, if you’re feeling like a fun Wednesday night, check out their famous Birria and Tequila events. Could you end up hungover on a Thursday? Yes. Will it be worth it? Also yes.

3. Haunted Head Saloon, Oceanside

Ahoy sailor! Haunted Head Saloon is Oceanside’s pirate-themed bar, and the perfect party spot after a day at Sunset Market. You’ll find daily, weekly and monthly specials, a pool table, Foosball table, 2 electronic games and a jukebox. There are 2 big screens for your favorite games, too.

4. Star Bar, Gaslamp

This Gaslamp spot has been serving up delicious and reasonably priced drinks since 1972. They continue to offer uncommon bourbons and whiskeys, and the cheapest ice-cold beer in the Gaslamp. Play some pool, choose some tunes from their jukebox, and have the best time. Oh, and you can bring your furry friend too.

5. Til-Two Club, City Heights

This historic dive bar was established as a piano bar and steakhouse. Throughout the years there have been many versions of it, eventually returning to the original name: Til-Two Club. If you’re looking for a killer rock’n’roll night, look no further.

6. The Kraken, Cardiff By the Sea

This San Diego spot was voted ‘best beach bar in North San Diego County’ 4 years running, so it’s naturally also one of our favorite dive bars. You’ll enjoy their delicious drinks, live bands, and a game of pool on the patio.

7. Instant Replay, Rancho Bernardo

Instant Replay is a local favorite – it truly feels like everyone knows everyone. This unpretentious spot is loaded with pool tables and dart boards. They have great cocktails and drinks, just keep in mind that they don’t serve food. You can get pizza or Thai food at one of the restaurants next door.

8. The Silver Fox, Pacific Beach

The Silver Fox is one of PB’s OG dive bars. They open at 6 AM (you read that right), feature a famous leopard print carpet, have three pool tables, and eight TVs. They also have $5,50 Margaritas.

10. Waterfront Bar & Grill
Little Italy’s Waterfront Bar and Grill is the oldest dive bar in San Diego, and one of the best spots for late night food. The bar has seating inside and out, pinball machines, great specials from drinks to food, and it’s famous for its burgers. It operates since 1933!
