After experiencing the driest start to winter for San Diego on record, high winds warning, and facing a couple of fires…the rain is finally here! This may be the most rain many will have seen since March 2024. And what’s more? It will even rain in the desert!
This is because of the atmospheric river, which will bring significant rainfall to Northern California and break down as it approaches San Diego.
When to expect rain in San Diego
From Wednesday through Saturday, we can expect various amounts of rain in and around San Diego. The heaviest precipitation will take place on Thursday and Friday – so make sure you’ve got a couple of plans ready for a rainy day!
How much will it rain? And can it even snow?
Coasts and valleys are pretty sure to see 1 inch of rain, and around a 50% chance for 2 inches.
Deserts could also reach 1 inch rain these days.
Mountains are sure to see at least 1 inch of rain, with some areas hitting 2 inches. Some snowfall is expected at the highest elevations. Areas above 6,500 ft may see 1-2 inches in total, but highest accumulations will be above 7,500 feet.
According to NBC, “by the time it’s through, the storm could bring anywhere from 2-3 inches of rain at the coast and in the valleys and up to 4 inches of rain to the mountains”.
