San Diego has been making a splash in headlines over the year in a variety of best of and roundups, from the most expensive city in the U.S. to a variety of best restaurant accolades. Here’s another to add to the list.
The folks over at WalletHub have been crunching the numbers, pulling data from the top 100 biggest cities in the states using 26 different criteria related to prices and entertainment, to determine the best city to celebrate NYE. The results were a bit of a shock to everyone, we think.
Surprisingly, San Diego managed to rank even higher than New York City, which has its iconic party in Times Square every year. The countdown to the new year is televised every year so maybe partygoers would rather watch the clips and head somewhere a bit warmer for New Year’s Eve, like San Diego, which was ranked so highly for its impeccable weather year-round.
San Diego came in under Orlando, Florida, known for its long fireworks show and outstanding themeparks, but the East Cost city didn’t edge out San Diego by much.
“If you want to go out to a restaurant on New Year’s Eve, San Diego has a lot of great choices, and it’s tied with Orlando when it comes to the availability of affordable restaurants rated at least 4.5 stars,” according to the report by WalletHub, adding “there’s certainly no shortage of places to spend the holiday, from the San Diego Zoo to the Old Globe.”
Looking for some ideas for a NYE itinerary? Head out for a nice dinner in Little Italy or North Park, then drive down to Embarcadero to see the fireworks show, or enjoy a NYE rooftop party in Gaslamp.
