Californians love a trip to the beach…and for a good reason. Great weather year-round and beautiful spots a stone’s throw away make this an easy choice for a day out. Whether to catch a wave, relax, swim, or find some amazing seafood, it’s always a good time for such an escape. We’re thrilled to hear 3 of our favorites made the “Best of the Best Beaches” top in U.S! According to the TripAdvisor, very few places earn this – they have to be consistently highly rated by the community. Let’s dive in (pun intended) – these are the best beaches in SoCal:
La Jolla Cove
No surprises here! Anyone’s who stopped by knows about its beautiful water and cliffs. Depending on the season, this spot is perfect for surfing, admiring the amazing wildlife (how cute are the sea lions?!), or catching the tide pools . It’s also paradise for those looking to take breathtaking pictures, or those seeking out-of-the-city activities to do with children.
When the water is calm, this is a great beach for snorkeling lovers to admire the colorful fish and diverse marine life. Just remember to be mindful of everything you encounter, and give it the respect it deserves.
Coronado Beach
Another beloved spot to San Diegans, we love to see this one also made the top. This is an amazing quick getaway from our city, and it’s perfect for a dip, a picnic in the sun, or for admiring those beautiful, late sunsets. If you have a furry friend, you can also bring them along! Keep an eye out for seasonal activities too, like movies on the beach around Christmas.
This amazing beach is located right next to the iconic Hotel del Coronado, famous for its role as the backdrop in the classic 1959 film Some Like It Hot, and rumored to have inspired Emerald City of the Oz series. They always organize tours and activities on and around the beach, as well as provide great food options for its visitors.
Santa Monica State Beach
This may not be a stone’s throw away, but definitely deserves a shout-out as one of US’ best beaches, right here in SoCal. It’s a great spot for many activities: swimming, laying in the sun, water sports, bike rides, or catching great views from an amazing Ferris wheel!
If you walk around, you’ll find great opportunities for dining, shopping, and entertainment, thanks to the well-known street performers. Santa Monica Beach is a great city-escape from L.A., but also for those San Diegans that are looking for a further getaway. Oh, and the area’s also a cute throwback for Baywatch nostalgia.
That’s a wrap for Tripadvisor’s “Best of the Best Beaches” top in 2025. We love to see our favorite local spots recognized – and we hope to see even more of the best beaches in SoCal mentioned in 2026!
