While Labor Day traditionally signals the end of summer, we like to save our biggest beach party for late September. Returning to Mission Bay from September 18-20, 2026, the San Diego Bayfair is an amazing mix of high-speed powerboat racing and family-friendly festivities!
Welcome to SD Bayfair, SoCal’s largest beach festival

But is it truly the city’s “largest beach festival,” as often claimed? The answer is a resounding yes. In fact, drawing nearly 100,000 attendees and over 1,000 RVs over its 3-day run, organizers proudly tout it as Southern California’s largest annual beach festival and powerboat competition.
Since its inception in 1964, Bayfair has become a beloved local tradition. The main attraction is the H1 Unlimited hydroplane races. Mission Bay boasts the longest and fastest 2.5-mile course on the circuit, meaning fans get to watch the world’s fastest boats roar across the water. Beyond the exciting races, the festival features live music, a classic car show, craft beer gardens, and daily aerial demonstrations.
Basically, Bayfair transforms Mission Bay into a mini city that feels like a huge family reunion.
Why’s Bayfair different – and better?
Unlike other racing events, Bayfair prides itself on accessibility. Fans can walk right up to the pit areas, admire the boats, and chat directly with the drivers. Moreover, strategically scheduled just after summer’s peak, Bayfair plays a crucial role in San Diego’s tourism economy.
If you’re a die-hard powerboat enthusiast, it simply makes sense to be here. However, even if you’re just looking for one last sunny, beachside celebration before fall…see you there as well. Tickets start at just $30!
