Emergency services were sent to All Saints School at around 11am yesterday after concerned reports over a burning, plastic smell that permeated through the air.
A Cadent spokesperson said:
We have had a larger than usual number of calls today in the L33 postcode area, about a smell that people were concerned is natural gas. We investigate each one and, as yet, have not found any evidence of an issue on the gas network that could have caused this.”
Although incidents like this have been reported in the past due to things like factory discharges, aviaton, activity at the docks, and even red tides, a microscopic organic that turns the ocean a reddish-brown color in the day and created glowing blue waves at night, which we are seeing now, and saw in 2020 when a strong smell had San Diegans complaining.
Still, one day later, there doesn’t seem to be answer to the question plauging San Diegans from San Carlos, North Park, and as far east as Lakeside and as far south as San Ysidro.
As of today, air quality is quite poor with an AQI of 51, leaving us to wonder if the bad air quality is to blame for the bad smell or the other way around.
So far, the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department have looked into what could possibly be the source of the smell and are looking into to make sure its not a gas leak.
More to come as this story develops.
