Candlelight Pride: Celebrating Queer Musical Icons
The month of June is dedicated to celebrating LGBTQ voices, culture, and supporting LGBTQ rights. Countless parades, festivals, and protests will take place around the world, and the Candlelight series is joining in on the activity with a concert inspired by artists and composers who have made a difference. Brandi Carlisle, Fanny Mendelssohn, and Jonathan Larson are some of the artists we undoubtedly associate with activisim and deem to be queer icons.
Once you enter the candlelit venue at the San Diego Central Library, you will be transported to an oasis of music and magic. The setlist for this special evening includes “Unholy” by Sam Smith ft. Kim Petras, “Your Song” by Elton John, and “The Story” by Brandi Carlisle. The very talented DIVISI Amp’d String Quartet will present these songs to you and more like never before.
Candlelight at the San Diego Central Library
This Candlelight concert is taking place at the Neil Morgan Auditorium located on the first floor of the San Diego Central Library. The theater is modern and can accommodate up to 300 guests. Thanks to an acoustically balanced sound system and the spacious setting, the auditorium allows the spellbinding melodies to carry softly around the room bathed in the glow of hundreds of flickering candles.
Although you will not be seeing the modern-day influential artists in the flesh, the power of their music will be captured just the same by the classically-trained string quartet. This spectacular Candlelight concert is a unique experience you won’t want to miss out on this summer.
There will be two performances on the evening, one at 6:15pm followed by another at 8:30pm. The doors will open 45 minutes prior to the start time.
Note: For the safety of our audience, all of the candlelight will be provided through flameless candles.
