There are few things as magnificent as the first signs of spring – especially here in San Diego. Besides the wonderful flower fields in Carlsbad, nothing signals the turning of the season quite like the blooming cherry blossoms. Adding a touch of magic to every stroll, these blooms breathe life back into the city. However, nature’s finest spectacle is very short-lived. If you want to surround yourself with thousands of pink petals, mark your calendars: the highly anticipated 2026 Cherry Blossom Festival is returning to the Japanese Friendship Garden and Museum at Balboa Park from March 12 to March 15, 2026.
2026 Cherry Blossom Festival

This year’s festival is bringing a great lineup of entertainment, food, and culture. While the cherry blossoms are the undeniable star of the show, there’s so much more to explore. Here’s what you can expect:
- Live performances & attractions: there’ll be special guest acts (especially on March 14 & 15), a wall of lanterns, and community art installations.
- Food & drinks: grab many delicious cultural foods and sip on delicious drinks at the ‘Beer and Sake Garden’.
- Fun for all: there’ll be many local vendors set up in the upper garden, and plenty of activities in the dedicated children’s area for the little ones.

About the Japanese Friendship Garden & Museum

Even beyond the cherry blossoms, the JFGM is a breathtaking 12-acre sanctuary. Opened in 1991 as an expression of friendship between San Diego and its sister city, Yokohama, the garden was created to educate visitors about Japanese culture. Today, it welcomes hundreds of thousands of guests each year.
Take time to admire the koi pond, explore the educational exhibits, and soak up the wonderful nature that fills the grounds. Nature’s show won’t last long! Cherry blossoms typically only hold their peak bloom for 1 to 2 weeks. Grab your tickets, pack your camera, and get ready to make some unforgettable spring memories.
