Hotel del Coronado has been a consistent hotspot when it comes to holiday cheer. With their ice-skating rink “by the sea”, frostbite lounge, Jingle Roast and special movie nights, there’s always something seasonal and cool going on here. Every year, we can also expect a dazzling light show – and 2024 is no exception. But this time, it’s simply epic (and funnily enough, organized by EPIC Entertainment group), lighting up the season with the “Lights, Camera, Hollywood” installation, which celebrates the 65th anniversary of Some Like It Hot, the Marilyn Monroe classic partially filmed at the historic hotel.
A dazzling holiday show on the world’s first electrically lit outdoor Christmas tree
This year, Hotel del Coronado is pulling out all the stops with a stunning 12-minute light show that transforms its iconic 100+ year-old Norfolk Island Pines on the Founders Lawn into a holiday spectacle. These historic trees, famous for being the world’s first electrically lit outdoor Christmas trees back in 1904, are glowing once again thanks to over 75,000 sparkling lights. They’re all choreographed to festive holiday tunes, for an extra touch. The show wraps up with a magical finale: a swirl of “snow” flurries.
Adding more cheer to the scene is a 12-foot replica of the hotel’s signature red turret, all decked out in twinkling lights. This festive centerpiece hosts a Victorian-inspired lounge and bar area where you can sip seasonal drinks. There’s still time to check out this spot, between Dec. 20, 2024 – Jan. 5, 2025.
Holiday magic at Hotel del Coronado
EPIC Entertainment Group has also gone all-in with the hotel’s decor, so make sure to step inside for more holiday cheer. You’ll find a breathtaking 22-foot Christmas tree, covered in over 10,000 amber lights and 2,000 ornaments – an ode to Some Like It Hot and the hotel’s Hollywood legacy. You can expect a picture-perfect holiday scene, and you won’t be disappointed.
