When most San Diegans think of heading over the bridge to Coronado on a Saturday, they’re usually planning for a beach day or dinner at the historic hotel. But this weekend, the island is quietly hosting one of the most impressive cultural takeovers – and you don’t need a massive budget to get in. In fact, it’s completely free.
Writers Festival at Coronado Public Library
This Saturday, March 28, the 7th Annual San Diego Writers Festival is taking over the Coronado Public Library and Coronado High School for a full-day celebration of storytelling. While literary festivals of this scale sometimes cost hundreds of dollars to attend, this community-driven event is 100% free and open to the public.
Whether you’re an aspiring author, a bookworm, or just someone looking for a different way to spend your Saturday – the lineup is great. The festival brings in over 80 world-class speakers, including #1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult (By Any Other Name, My Sister’s Keeper, Wish You Were Here, and many more) as the headliner. Grab a free ticket to her keynote presentation here.
What to do at the Writer’s Festival
Throughout the day, you can wander between dozens of different events. We’re talking interactive creative workshops, insider panels on publishing, poetry open mics, and live performances. You can get advice on crafting the perfect elevator pitch, listen to screenwriters break down how to get a green light in Hollywood, or grab a coffee and hear some incredible live storytelling.
The festival runs from 9 AM to 6 PM. Because the event is entirely free, registration is highly recommended. Parking on the island will be busy, so grab your friends, cross the bridge early, and get ready for the smartest weekend hangout in the city.
