If you know, you know: Padres opening weekend isn’t just a sports event in San Diego. It’s practically an unofficial city holiday! To celebrate the highly anticipated return of baseball season, Downtown is going all out, and many fun events are free to attend.

East Village Block Party

This Saturday, March 28, the 14th Annual East Village Block Party is completely taking over J Street. Stretching all the way from 6th to 10th Avenues right outside Petco Park, this massive neighborhood celebration is expected to draw thousands. The best part? It’s 100% free to attend. You can expect a multi-block classic car show, 3 different stages pumping out live DJ sets, and sports demos. Of course, no block party is complete without food, so get ready for some tasty bites.
The party runs from 11 AM to 4:30 PM, so grab your crew, throw on your brown and gold, and head to the East Village before the first pitch.
Margaritaville Hotel’s 5 o’ Clock Somewhere Bar

Looking for more free Padres parties? On March 26, the Margaritaville Hotel San Diego Gaslamp Quarter is hosting a celebration for Opening Day. The event will take place at the hotel’s “5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar,” which is conveniently located just a block away from Petco Park. Expect a DJ, merch, a special menu…all on a rooftop, with great views and vibes.
See you at the party!
