Spring is in full swing, and there’s no better season to enjoy everything that this wonderful city we call home has to offer. Flowers are in bloom, nature’s at its greenest, the temperature’s perfect, and ocean views are breathtaking. Whether you’re looking for the perfect photoshoot, or just want to relax at an out-of-this-worldly beautiful spot, here are our 7 favorite Instagrammable spots in San Diego – from classics, to hidden gems.
1. Scripps Pier
Sunset photos are a classic at this La Jolla spot, and for good reason. Featuring a symmetrically built pier, you can place yourself just in the middle for that perfect tunnel look picture. Besides being a great aesthetic spot, this landmark houses environmental monitoring stations and serves as a launching pad for scientific diving operations.
2. Encinitas’ Meditation Gardens
This is one of the most Instagrammable spots in San Diego, because it offers so many background options. The mix of magical koi ponds, beautiful and unique plants, and the fact that it overlooks the ocean, makes it a hot-spot on our list. While it’s great for a photoshoot, please be mindful of other visitors, who may be there to study or meditate.
3. Cabrillo National Monument
If you’re looking to catch historical and local importance together with epic views in one shot, this is your spot. In 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo climbed out of his boat and onto shore, becoming the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States. This statue honors him and his contributions, and it’s placed in a beautiful spots with amazing ocean views. If you’re looking for more in the same area, check out Cabrillo’s coastal trail, too. Depending on the season, tide pools can also be found here.
4. Harper’s Topiary Garden
The most beautiful thing about this spot is the simplicity of the concept – a couple who just wanted their front yard to be really, REALLY pretty – and so this happened. Here, you’ll find over 50 life-sized figurines trimmed by hand, all inspired by their travels around the world.
5. Quince Street Bridge
Here’s something a bit different when it comes to Instagrammable spots in San Diego. If you’re looking for vintage vibes, you’ll find them on this historic bridge from the early 20th century. It’s the oldest functioning bridge in our city. Go both ways to really take in the views. It is 60 feet tall, though, so if you’re afraid of heights…maybe keep reading. Nearby, you can also find the scenic Maple Canyon Trail.
6. Sunset Cliffs
An absolute classic on any list of photo-op spots in San Diego, because…well, it’s simply gorgeous. Sunset Cliffs Natural Park is a 68-acre resource-based park along the Pacific Ocean, bordering the western edge of Point Loma. The dramatic cliffs at sunset time are pure perfection. However, we can’t call this a hidden spot, so if you can do your photoshoot on a week day, it will probably be a more enjoyable experience.
7. The Nolen Rooftop Bar
We love a good rooftop (and we have a list of favorites right here)..and while it’s hard to find one in SD that doesn’t offer epic views, this may just be our favorite. Why? Because it combines city views on one side, with Coronado Bridge views on the other. Win-win, a double perfect Instagrammable shot. Grab a happy hour cocktail, enjoy your drink, and take it all in.
