Enjoy this neighborhood tradition from the comfort of your own home this season!
Every year, Piazza della Famiglia’s 30-foot tree is embellished with holiday lights and festive decorations, marking the beginning of the Yuletide season in Little Italy. Although the permanent tree was only planted in 2016, this holiday celebration has been bringing local residents holiday warmth and cheer for over two decades!
This year, given new circumstances, Little Italy is altering its much anticipated holiday tradition so that San Diegans can ring in the season from the comfort of their own homes. On Saturday, December 5th at 5:30pm, Little Italy Association leadership will live stream the Little Italy Holiday Special!
The program for the celebration will include the treasured tree lighting ceremony and Italian countdown by Father Joe Tabigue and a musical performance by Our Lady of the Rosary Choir. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will even be there to read the holiday classic, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas!
The 45-minute event is totally free, but you must reserve a ticket in advance. If you want to make a contribution to the event’s decorations and festivities, you can sponsor an ornament on the holiday tree! Donors will have their name or family name displayed on a sign next to the tree for the duration of the month. Find more information about the event here.
So get ready, San Diego! This Saturday, sit back and relax at home as you watch Little Italy’s beloved holiday tree sparkle and shine for the first time this season.
