If you’ve ever traveled between San Diego to L.A. on the Pacific Surfliner, you know it’s more than just a train ride – it’s an experience! With comfortable seats and breathtaking views, it’s the perfect way to travel, no matter your reason for the trip. However, the frequency of these trains has decreased since the pandemic, reaching 10 trips a day between the 2 cities. The new schedule doesn’t fit the community’s needs anymore – but that’s about to change.
Starting March 2025, 2 more trains will be added to the route, with an additional one in November 2025. This project, which resulted from a recent federal grant awarded to the LOSSAN Rail Corridor Agency, aims to bring the frequency of the train to pre-pandemic standards. The award marked a significant milestone – the first successful federal grant award for LOSSAN Agency. Due to this success, the new schedule will move to a more consistent hourly service.
The Pacific Surfliner is the second busiest intercity passenger rail corridor in the United States – and the country’s busiest state-supported Amtrak route! Ridership on the Pacific Surfliner increased to more than 2 million in 2024.
By the end of 2025, there will be 13 round-trips daily between San Diego and L.A. Besides work, people use this route to enjoy sports games, nature escapes, lovely beach days, and more. The train ride is very smooth, with complimentary wi-fi, a cafe car, and charging ports.
This is your sign to take that scenic trip, and enjoy the ride!
