Forget about traveling this Independence Day – the ultimate celebration is happening right in our own backyard. Did you know that we have the largest 4th of July fireworks show on the entire West Coast? We’re talking about Big Bay Boom, and this year is going to be special. Not only is America celebrating its massive 250th birthday, but our beloved local tradition is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Expect the sky above San Diego Bay to be absolutely spectacular.
Big Bay Boom! What to expect
On 4th of July, an awe-inspiring 6,000 fireworks will be launched simultaneously from 4 barges positioned across the bay. It’s going to be an epic 18-minute spectacle perfectly synchronized to a musical soundtrack. Hundreds of thousands of people will be flocking to our shores, but as locals, we know the drill! You can catch the display from all of our favorite waterfront spots. The best views in the house will be at:
- Shelter Island
- Harbor Island
- The Embarcadero
- Seaport Village
- Coronado Ferry Landing
Tips and reminders
- If you’re driving, get there early! The Port of San Diego is offering free parking at their waterfront meters and pay stations, or you can book ahead through ParkWhiz or SpotHero.
- Want to skip the traffic headache? Take advantage of the expanded MTS trolley, bus, and train services.
- Don’t forget the music! Tune in to 91X FM to hear the custom soundtrack synchronized to the explosions. If you’re watching from home, you can catch the live broadcast on Fox 5 San Diego or the Fox 5 app.
- Keep our waterfront clean and safe: alcohol, tobacco, vaping, and drones are not allowed along the viewing areas.
- If you’re watching from your boat, remember to follow the instructions and stay at least 1,000 feet back from the fireworks barges.
