We all love a good peek behind the gates of La Jolla’s most stunning homes. If you’re looking for major landscaping inspiration (or the perfect way to spend a spring Saturday), you’re in luck. The La Jolla Historical Society (LJHS) is bringing back its beloved Secret Garden Tour for the 27th year on Saturday, May 16, 2026. Mark your calendars!
What you see during the Secret Garden Tour

True to its name, the exact locations of these spectacular gardens are kept strictly under wraps until the morning of the tour. But here’s what we do know: you’ll explore 6 breathtaking properties with incredible views, unique botanical setups, live musicians, artists painting on-site, and beautifully inspired tabletop designs.
Moreover, this year you can go for a choose-your-own-adventure format. All tickets now also feature a self-driving tour, giving you the freedom to cruise to the gardens at your own pace.
Side quests

If you want to level up your weekend, there are 2 optional upgrades this year:
- The lunch + learn ticket: Treat yourself to a buffet lunch at a historic site, followed by a session with a Master Gardener.
- The bonus garden ticket: This limited-capacity ticket unlocks the gates to a 7th exceptional private garden.
Oh, and even if you don’t snag a tour ticket, you can still get in on the fun. The Secret Garden Boutique at Wisteria Cottage will be completely free and open to the public all day on May 16. Here, you can get all your spring shopping, like gardening accessories, plants, and vintage gifts.
Good times for a good cause

The best part? It’s all for a great cause. For nearly 3 decades, this event has been a crucial fundraiser. It’s generating the support needed to keep the La Jolla Historical Society’s exhibitions and educational programs completely free for our community. Grab your tickets here.
