Mark your calendars for the 2026 Spring Garden and Butterfly Festival, returning on May 2! Spanning nearly 20 acres of the Cuyamaca College campus in El Cajon, this vibrant celebration is hosted in partnership with The Water Conservation Garden and the Heritage of the Americas Museum. Best of all, both admission and parking are completely free! It takes place from 9 AM to 3 PM.
How it started

What is now one of the San Diego most popular spring events actually has humble academic roots. The festival began in 1993 as the “Urban Forest Field Day,” a small campus event for arboriculture students to demonstrate what they had learned that semester. Over the years, it grew to include numerous horticulture classes, eventually evolving into a festival that now draws over 7,000 visitors annually.
