San Diego’s sweetest tradition, the annual Vista Strawberry Festival, returns to downtown Vista this May! Celebrating the city’s rich agricultural roots, this family-friendly event is free to the public and packed with delicious treats. Expect lively entertainment, unique vendors, and strawberry runs.
Why is Vista hosting this annual celebration?

In the 1960s and 1970s, Vista was widely known as the “unofficial strawberry capital of the world.” The local berries were so juicy and famous that European consumers (particularly the Dutch) affectionately referred to the fruit simply as vistas. Since 2010, the city has honored this agricultural heritage with a much-awaited free community celebration.
What to do at the Vista Strawberry Festival

The festivities kick off early with the beloved Vista Strawberry Run, featuring a 5K and Kids’ 1-mile or 1/4-mile races. Of course, you’re highly encouraged to tackle the course in your best strawberry-themed costume! If you needed an extra reason to run, adults get a free beer for participating, while kids get a carton of Hollandia Dairy strawberry milk.
Afterwards, go ahead and explore the massive street fair, grab a pint in the craft beer garden, or take the little ones to the carnival zone.
If you love a good competition, the festival’s contests are not to be missed. Kids and adults alike can dig into the classic Strawberry Pie or Ice Cream Sundae eating contests to see who can finish first. The youngest ones can showcase their fashion in the Little Ms. Strawberry Shortcake and Strawberry costume contests, while adults can test their endurance in the Beer Stein-Holding or the Frozen T-Shirt competition.
Know before you go

The event takes place on May 24, 2026, between 8 AM – 6 PM. You can bring your own food and drinks, but don’t miss out on the incredible vendors on the site. Organizers highly encourage visitors to use the designated parking lots and shuttle to the festival.
With live music and endless berry treats, the Vista Strawberry Festival is the perfect way to kick off your summer. See you there!
