In San Diego, it feels like every single day “a new door opens.” When it comes to Timestead, Gaslamp’s first bar with a vinyl record store inside, we’re looking at a new door opened by a familiar face! This bar is brought to us by Modern Times, which we know for their beer meets coffee concept. If you’ve been waiting for a spot in the Gaslamp Quarter that feels less like a tourist trap and more like a proper hideaway, your time has come.
Timestead – a futuristic bar with vintage records

Taking over the former space of The Local, Timestead is serving up major “intergalactic cowboy energy,” combining retro western and futuristic sci-fi elements. Think warm wood, brushed steel, and a design that feels like a retro-futurist living room where you actually want to linger. It’s laid-back, stylish, and sounds as good as it look – ’cause it’s also the neighborhood’s first record bar complete with an actual vinyl shop inside, via Vinyl Record Rarities. You can snag a new record for your collection right at the bar!
What’s on the menu?

Every one of your friends will be happy here, as they’ve nailed yummy comfort food for vegans, meat lovers, and everyone in between. Think tacos, mac’n’cheese, pretzels (to go with the amazing tap beers!), flat breads, steak & fries, Caesar salads, and so much more.
As this is a Modern Times venue, you can expect an impressive list of tap beers – from light lagers to coffee stouts, you can sip whatever you feel like. However, Timestead is more than a brewery, so you’ll also find a list of affordable cocktails. Try the Lemon Drop Martini if you’re keeping it crisp, or the Screwball Slushies if you’re feeling indulgent.
Vibes, community, and Happy Hour specials
According to the venue itself, the vibe “transforms a casual drop-in into an extended stay.” Whether you’re looking for a snack and a night cap, or grabbing pre-drinks before a show, this is the new Gaslamp place-to-be.
The real pro move, though, is hitting their Happy Hour, from Monday to Friday between 2 – 5:30 PM. We’re talking $6 Modern Times pints, $8 cocktails, $9 smash burgers and $12 Munchwraps.
Oh, and if you live or work in the neighborhood, don’t forget to sign up for their free Neighborhood Collective for 15% off your bill. That’s what we call community spirit! See you there.
