With March comes Spring, and what better way of celebrating this beautiful season than by taking advantage of all our city has to offer. Though the season doesn’t officially change until March 20, the city is already in full bloom! There are so many wonderful things happening this month such as the Carlsbad fields blooming, International Women’s Month, St. Patrick’s Day, and more! Since there’s so much going on we decided to put together a list of 14 fantastic things to do in San Diego this month.
1. Be dazzled at a candlelit concert
These enchanting candlelight concerts are taking place all around the world, so don’t miss out on a chance to see classic and contemporary culture come to life. For the month of March, you can enjoy the incredible Japanese composer, Joe Hisashi, classical renditions of Adele or the Beatles, or the best of Hans Zimmer aboard the USS Midway for an epic night. 2. Visit the Carlsbad Flower Fields
These gorgeous flower fields in Carlsbad open the first day of March and for the entire month, you can book a time to frolic among one of the best preserved flower fields in California. A sea of pink, gold, yellow, and orange flowers are planted every year to give San Diegans access to the beauty of mother mature. This is one of the best spots to see spring blooms in March, so don’t miss out on reserving a spot.
3. San Diegans Ride For Free
San Diego County residents can take advantage of free tours and attractions from Old Town Trolley with the Hometown Pass. You can also receive free rides if you are accompanied by a full fare adult paid with Hometown Pass!
4. Taste your way through Seaworld’s Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival
From March 1 until April 28, foodies and beer lovers can celebrate at SeaWorld’s Seven Seas Craft Beer & Food Festival. The event will feature local craft beer from San Diego’s best breweries and delicious food from around the globe!
5. Take a hike to a stunning waterfall
Even if San Diego is a beautiful city year-round, the start of spring usually means more outdoor activities, and San Diego is the city if you want to get fit and get a stunning view as your reward.

6. Dance at this electronic music festival
CRSSD Fest returns to San Diego from March 2 to March 3 at the Waterfront Park. With 3 stages and over 30+ artists, you can dance well into the evening, hang out at the food and drink vendors, and discover some great electronic music. There’s an after-party that has a line-up with DJs playing as late as 4am so you can enjoe a great line up playing against a waterfront backdrop all day and evening long.
7. Head to Seaport Village for month full of events
Seaport Village has a calendar full of events this month, and here are all the details:
On Saturday March 2 you can listen to the Back Pocket Whiskey Fellows, a country ensemble, live from 12pm-3pm for free.
On Sunday, March 17, it’s time to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at their Leprecheuns and Live Music event. There will be Shamrock Light Tunnels, live music, and a variety of grub and pints at any of Seaport Village’s restaurants.
Finally, on Saturday March 23, they’ll host the Beach Bunny Kite Festival. Let the kids hang out with Seaport’s Beach Bunny while watching dozens of kites soar.
8. Enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day pint
St. Patrick’s Day is coming up, so get ready to celebrate San Diego style! One of the best Irish pubs in the city is The Field in the historic Gaslamp District, and their downtown is full of awesome irish pubs to bring you the luck of the Irish.
9. Engage in the arts during San Diego Theatre Month
March is a great month to be a theatre aficionado in San Diego! From March 1-31, you can make your way around San Diego to participate in Theatre Month, which brings an exciting program by the San Diego Performing Arts League. The aim of the program is to highlight the importance of San Diego’s diverse performing arts community, with musicals, comedy shows, and theatre, all covering different subjects, in three different price tiers. 10. San Diego Latino Film Festival
Mark your calendars, cinephiles! From March 14-24, San Diego’s 31st Latino Film Festival is back for another year celebrating the diversity within the Latin diaspora through their filmmaking! The festival will feature 17 unique movies from documentaries to dramas in different formats along with interesting Q&A sessions with the filmmakers. Check out their full schedule here.
11.Drink sake at SD’s Cherry Blossom Festival
The Cherry Blossom Festival is almost here! From March 7-10, this dreamlike festival will celebrate Japanese culture and beauty. Wander around the Japanese Friendship Garden, taking in the spring’s gorgeous display of cherry blossom trees while enjoying their beer and sake garden, great food vendors, live musical performances all day long, and a unique cosplay contest you can participate in.
12. Go green at the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival
San Diego’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the largest parade west of the Mississippi! There will be many attractions to enjoy on March 16, such as the mesmerizing floats, the talented high school marching bands, festive street performers, antique cars, and more! Head over to Balboa Park from 9am – 6pm for $10, with the parade kicking off at 10:30am on Fifth Avenue at Laurel Street.
13. ShamROCK
Don’t miss this amazing blockparty that celebrates St. Patrick’s Day, the ShamROCK festival takes over the district of Gaslamp Quarter with a full lineup of Irish and Celtic Rock bands, Irish dancers, and beer galore. The party is Saturday, March 16 from 2pm to 11pm.
14. Eat out at San Diego Restaurant Week
San Diego Restaurant Week is going to be returning San Diego on March 3 – 10. 100+ restaurants will be serving variations of multi-course menus starting at $20. Tickets aren’t necessary but they highly recommend making a reservation at the restaurants you want to eat at.
