More amazing tacos in San Diego? Yep! Our own Gaslamp Quarter has just spiced up its culinary scene with the highly anticipated opening of Tacos El Franc. And this spot isn’t just crazy famous in Tijuana; it’s Netflix famous, and Michelin-approved.
Welcome to San Diego, Tacos El Franc!

This taqueria carries a long legacy of authentic, delicious Mexican street food. The institution traces its roots back to the 1980s when Tijuana street vendor Don Javier Valadez began serving his made-to-order tacos. Over the years, the operation grew into a thriving business with multiple locations in Tijuana. The new Gaslamp spot is the brand’s second location into the United States, following a successful debut in National City earlier this year.

When it comes to reputation, Tacos El Franc’s speaks for itself. It reached a massive global audience after being featured on Netflix’s Taco Chronicles. Adding to its prestige, the taqueria earned spots in both the 2024 and 2025 Michelin Guide Mexico. That’s no easy feat!
What’s on the menu?

At the new Gaslamp location, foodies can expect a fast-casual format featuring the same ingredients and cooking methods that built the brand’s fame. The place is universally praised for its signature carne asada – a premium beef marinated in secret spices and perfectly grilled. Taco lovers can also indulge in adobada, suadero, and lengua; served as tacos, tostadas, or their famous Sonoran-inspired vampiros.
What are you waiting for? You can’t miss a Michelin-recognized, authentic Tijuana street food experience, right here in San Diego.
